Why it mattersThis is a direct action channel into millions of iPhones. The team that releases it first in a category gets a free spoken shortcut to its app.

An iPhone owner who wants to pay a bill or book a ride still opens the app and taps. Apple wants the ask to go through Siri instead. From today, any developer can wire their app into that ask.

Apple published the Siri AI Developer Preview on 3 November 2026. It is in the iOS 27.3, iPadOS 27.3, macOS 27.3, watchOS 27.3 and visionOS 27.3 betas. The way in is App Intents, the same system developers already use for Shortcuts.

What an app can now do

An app registers each action it wants Siri AI to take. A user asks Siri in their own words. Siri picks the right action and runs it. Apple lists checking a delivery, booking a reservation and placing an order as the example asks.

Apple is also adding a feature called Skills. A Skill lets a developer teach Siri AI to join several actions into one experience. One request can now cover two or three steps. Apple says any entity in the Spotlight semantic index can now be surfaced too. The old rule was that the entity had to fit an existing schema.

Apple started turning on the same interface for its own apps first: Calendar, Files, Finder, Journal, Mail, Maps, Messages, Music, Notes, Photos, Preview, Reminders, Safari, Shortcuts and Weather. Apple gives two example asks. One finds a coffee shop the user visited last week. The other archives files that have not been opened in over a year.

Timeline and limits

The preview is for developers only. Apple says the first customer release is a few months out. App Store submissions open in spring 2027. Apple Intelligence Group runs labs on 4 and 5 November for developers to ask questions.

Apple states several conditions in the fine print. Siri AI needs an Apple Intelligence device set to a supported language. The current languages are English, French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish. Traditional Chinese, Norwegian, Turkish and Vietnamese are coming. Siri AI is not available in the EU on iOS, iPadOS or watchOS. Users under 13 cannot use it. Server-side features have daily use limits, and Apple says expanded access will cost money later.

Apple also notes that terms and usage policies for Siri AI experiences will follow. The Developer Preview is live now, the rules that govern paid use are not.

The pitch for a team building a consumer or small-business app is direct. A spoken action routes into your app, on devices people already carry, with no new store. The catch is the schedule. If three apps in your category can handle the same ask, the first one to add intents wins the asks. Build the integration now and keep it in beta until spring.
