Claude Code's new weekly limits work out to a 17 percent cut

Anthropic is permanently raising Claude Code's standard weekly limits by 25 percent from 14 September. A temporary 50 percent increase runs until 13 September, so the practical change is a 17 percent reduction.

Why it mattersIf your team's current usage fits inside today's allowance with a small margin, some of that margin disappears on 14 September, and nothing in the announcement reads like a cut.

Anthropic is changing Claude Code's weekly usage limits on 14 September. BleepingComputer reported the details on 29 August, including Anthropic's own clarification of what the change means in practice.

The two numbers

Anthropic's statement: "Starting September 14, we're permanently raising standard weekly limits in Claude Code by 25% for Pro, Max, Team, and seat-based Enterprise plans. Until then, the current 50% increase will be in place."

Both numbers are correct and they measure from different starting points.

A temporary 50 percent increase has been in effect and runs through 13 September. The permanent 25 percent rise is calculated from the base limit, not from the increased one.

Take a base of 100 as an example. Today you have 150. From 14 September you have 125.

Anthropic said so itself, after deleting an earlier post: "Compared to today, this works out to a 17% reduction in weekly limits on Claude Code."

Worth crediting them for stating it plainly, because a reader who saw only the first sentence would have understood the opposite.

What to do about it

Two weeks is enough time to find out whether this affects you.

Look at your team's actual weekly consumption over the last month, not the plan's advertised number. If you have been comfortably inside the increased allowance, the question is whether you fit inside 125 when you have been using up to 150.

If you do not know your consumption, that is the more useful thing to fix first.

Then look at what you can cut, because reducing a limit by 17 percent and reducing what you use by 17 percent have the same effect on whether you run out.

Anthropic also said it is "working on exciting changes that will make it feel like you're getting more from Claude, while having more visibility and control of your usage." That is a statement of intent with no dates attached, so plan with the number you have.
