Why it mattersTeams can now ask Claude for a working dashboard without buying a seat of a specialist tool, which pushes the choice between a hosted chat and a dedicated analytics product away from licence cost and toward governance and the semantic layer.

A finished dashboard in Claude now shows the exact SQL query behind every number, so a team member can check how the figure was produced before they share it with the rest of the company.

Anthropic launched Claude Dashboards and Claude Motion in beta, and said Docs, Slides, and Design come out of beta on 15 October. Claude Dashboards connects to Snowflake, Databricks, Amazon Redshift, and ClickHouse, among others. Clicking any number in a dashboard brings up the query that produced it, and users who do not read SQL can ask Claude to explain the figure.

Live data, visible queries, and where it stops

Anthropic says Claude will refresh dashboards as data changes and shows a timestamp on each chart. Dashboards also work with existing Claude connectors, including Salesforce. The company says Dashboards is not meant to replace a specialist business-intelligence tool, and users who want more can move a dashboard into Grafana, Hex, Mixpanel, monday.com, Omni, PostHog, or Sigma. Support for Looker, Perplexity, and Tableau will come later.

The New Stack writes that OpenAI shipped a similar feature in ChatGPT Work a month before. The two product lists overlap but are not identical: OpenAI's Data agent connects to Redshift, BigQuery, ClickHouse, Databricks, MongoDB, Snowflake, and Datadog, and supports semantic layers like Databricks Genie Ontology. An Anthropic spokesperson told The New Stack that Claude Dashboards will also support these semantic models if they are exposed through a connector.

Permissions follow the viewer's own data access

An Anthropic spokesperson told The New Stack that a dashboard starts private to the person who built it. When shared, each viewer's own connections run its queries by default, so people see only the data they already have access to. On Enterprise plans, Dashboards is off until an admin turns it on in organization settings. On Team and Enterprise plans, dashboards stay inside the organization unless an owner turns on external sharing. Artifacts also now support customer-managed encryption keys.

Claude Motion, with no video model behind it

Claude Motion turns material such as a quarterly update or a chart from a board deck into a short animated clip. Anthropic has no video model, so Claude Motion writes code to animate the user's text, charts, and images, and exports an MP4. The approach is the same one developers have been using with Claude Code and frameworks like Remotion and HyperFrames, moved into Claude itself. Motion is in beta for Team and Enterprise customers, and admins must enable both Dashboards and Motion.

Users of the standalone Claude Design site, which launched in April, have until 14 December to migrate, and Anthropic says their chats and comments will not transfer.
