A dated log of changes to Claude Code usage limits, usage credits and plan access

This page is a dated log of changes to Claude Code usage limits, to usage credits, and to which plans include Claude Code. Each entry comes from Anthropic's own release notes and support articles, read on 4 October 2026, or from one named news report, BleepingComputer's article of 29 August 2026. The log was last updated on 4 October 2026. The most recent entry is the weekly limit change of 14 September 2026: a temporary 50 percent increase ran through 13 September 2026 and a permanent 25 percent increase over the earlier baseline began on 14 September 2026, which BleepingComputer describes as 17 percent less than the temporary level. Any change not listed here was not found in those sources on 4 October 2026.

Key takeaways

  • BleepingComputer reported on 29 August 2026 that Claude Code's temporary 50 percent increase in weekly limits ran through 13 September 2026 and that a permanent 25 percent increase over the pre-promotion baseline applies from 14 September 2026 to Pro, Max, Team and seat-based Enterprise plans.
  • In BleepingComputer's illustration, a weekly allowance of 100 before the promotion became 150 during it and 125 after 14 September 2026, which the report describes as 17 percent less than the temporary level.
  • Anthropic's release notes, read on 4 October 2026, date Premium seats with Claude Code and extra usage for Team and Enterprise plans to 20 August 2025, Claude Code on every Team Standard seat to 16 January 2026, and self-serve Enterprise plans with one seat type to 12 February 2026.
  • Anthropic's release notes page contains no entry for the September 2026 weekly limit change, so that entry rests on the named news report alone.
  • Any change not listed on this page was not found in Anthropic's release notes, the support articles this guide cites, or the named report on 4 October 2026.

Claude Code is Anthropic's coding tool: you type a request in a terminal, the text window where you type commands, and an AI model reads files, runs commands and edits code for you. On a Pro, Max, Team or Enterprise subscription, that work counts against a usage limit, an allowance of work the plan includes. The work is done in tokens, the pieces of text the model reads and writes, and Anthropic states the allowance as a multiple of another plan's allowance, with no token count attached. The allowance has a session window that resets every five hours and a weekly window that resets once a week at a fixed time, as the page on the five-hour window and the weekly window explains. Usage credits are paid use after the included limit, billed at standard API rates, and a seat is one member's place on a Team or Enterprise plan.

The rules behind those words change. This page is a dated log of the changes, kept as part of the guide to Claude Code usage limits. It records three kinds of change: to the usage limits themselves, to usage credits, and to which plans and seats include Claude Code.

Where the entries come from, and what the log cannot show

Anthropic publishes limit changes in two places. Its release notes page on support.claude.com lists product changes by date, and its support articles, such as the ones on the Pro plan, the Max plan, usage credits and Claude Code, state the rules in force at the time you read them. The support articles carry no dated list of changes; each shows only when it was last updated and the rule in force on the day you read it.

This log is kept from those sources plus named news reports. The release notes page was read on 4 October 2026 and searched for the words limit, usage, Claude Code, credits and extra usage, and every entry that concerns usage limits, usage credits or Claude Code access on a plan is listed below with its date as printed [1]. One news report is included, because the release notes hold no entry for the change it describes: BleepingComputer's article of 29 August 2026 by Mayank Parmar on the weekly limit change of 14 September 2026, read on 4 October 2026 [2]. Every fact from that article is attributed to it, and the sentences it quotes from Anthropic are attributed to Anthropic as quoted by BleepingComputer.

The log is updated on the date shown at the top of the page, and the last update was 4 October 2026. Any change not listed here was not found in those sources on 4 October 2026. That is a statement about the sources, and only about them: a change can have happened without an entry in the release notes, and a support article can have been rewritten without a dated note.

20 August 2025: Premium seats and extra usage for Team and Enterprise plans

Anthropic's release notes have two entries under this date. The first, titled "Premium seats with Claude Code for Team and Enterprise plans", says Anthropic "introduced a premium seat tier for Team and Enterprise plans offering more usage and access to Claude Code", and points to the articles on purchasing and managing seats and on using Claude Code with a Team or Enterprise plan [1]. The second, titled "Extra usage for Team and Enterprise plans", says: "A new setting allows Team and Enterprise plan users to purchase more usage to continue chatting with Claude or using Claude Code after hitting their usage limit" [1].

Extra usage is the name the release notes use for what Anthropic's support article on paid plans, read on 4 October 2026, calls usage credits, and that article's web address contains the words extra usage [3]. The page on usage credits after the limit explains how they work for a Pro or Max subscriber, and the guide to Claude Code costs for teams covers the Team and Enterprise setting an administrator controls.

16 January 2026: Claude Code on every Team Standard seat

Under this date the release notes say: "We're now including Claude Code access with every Team plan standard seat", and point to the article on purchasing and managing seats on Team plans [1]. Read with the entry of 20 August 2025, the two dates give the order in which the notes record Claude Code reaching Team plans: first through Premium seats, then through every Standard seat as well. The current difference between the two seat types is on the page about what each plan includes.

12 February 2026: self-serve Enterprise plans with one seat type

The release notes say that before this date "Enterprise plans were only available to customers working with our Sales team", and that from this date "any organization can purchase an Enterprise plan directly on our website with no Sales conversation required". The entry adds: "Self-serve Enterprise plans have a single seat type that includes access to Claude, Claude Code, and Cowork" [1]. This is a change to Claude Code access on a plan, which is why it is in the log.

29 August and 14 September 2026: the weekly limit change

This entry rests on one named report, because Anthropic's release notes page, read on 4 October 2026, holds no entry for it. BleepingComputer's article of 29 August 2026, by Mayank Parmar, reports the following, all read on 4 October 2026 [2].

Anthropic announced a permanent increase of 25 percent in Claude Code's standard weekly usage limits for Pro, Max, Team and seat-based Enterprise plans. The report quotes Anthropic's post on X: "Starting September 14, we're permanently raising standard weekly limits in Claude Code by 25% for Pro, Max, Team, and seat-based Enterprise plans. Until then, the current 50% increase will be in place." At the time of the report, Claude Code had a temporary 50 percent increase in weekly limits, which, the report says, Anthropic said would remain in place until 14 September [2].

The report then gives the arithmetic, and the arithmetic is BleepingComputer's: if Claude Code's original weekly allowance was 100, the temporary increase gave 150, and on 14 September that drops to 125. The report describes 125 as 25 percent more than before the promotion and puts it at 17 percent less than the temporary level. Our own check of the report's rounding, which is Reveneau's arithmetic and not the report's: 150 minus 125 is 25, and 25 divided by 150 is 16.7 percent, which rounds to the 17 percent the report states [2].

The report says Anthropic later deleted the original thread and posted a clarification, which it quotes: "Compared to today, this works out to a 17% reduction in weekly limits on Claude Code." It also quotes Anthropic as saying it was working on changes meant to make users feel they were getting more from Claude while having more visibility and control of their usage, and that more Claude Code usage changes were coming. The report gives no date for those further changes, and none was found in the release notes on 4 October 2026 [2].

Two more facts from the report. The temporary 50 percent increase remained available through 13 September 2026, with the new permanent limits taking effect on 14 September 2026 [2]. And the report says Anthropic stated that Claude usage varies with conversation length, model choice, tool usage and effort level, so the weekly allowance does not translate into a fixed number of Claude Code prompts [2]. The page on what counts against a Claude Code usage limit records Anthropic's own statement of the same point.

What the report does not say, and this page therefore does not say: the size of any weekly allowance in tokens, dollars or prompts, before or after the change; whether the session window changed; and anything about plans the report does not name.

A dated statement outside the log: usage credits expiring in some countries

One dated rule appears in a support article instead of the release notes, so it is recorded here beside the log instead of in it. Anthropic's article on usage credits for paid plans, read on 4 October 2026, says that in most cases usage credits do not expire, and that "in certain jurisdictions such as Japan, usage credits expire six months after purchase starting September 10, 2026", with an email notice seven days before expiry and the expiry dates shown on the Usage page in Settings [3].

What was searched and left out

For a reader who wants to repeat the search: the release notes page, read on 4 October 2026, was searched for limit, usage, Claude Code, credits and extra usage [1]. Entries that matched a word but concern something other than usage limits, usage credits or plan access were left out. Among the entries left out are: the 1M token context window for Claude Sonnet 4 on 12 August 2025, which concerns the API's usage tiers and rate limits; context window compaction on 24 November 2025, which concerns length limits inside a conversation; the removal of Opus 4 and 4.1 from Claude and Claude Code on 16 January 2026, which concerns which models are offered; and the Enterprise role-based access controls entry of 9 April 2026, which links to group spend limits without describing a change to them. Each of those is a judgement about scope, and the dates are given so that a reader can disagree.

How to read the log

Three habits make the log useful.

First, read each entry against the plan you are on. The 2025 and early 2026 entries concern Team and Enterprise seats only, and a Pro or Max subscriber's Claude Code access was unchanged by them. The September 2026 entry names Pro, Max, Team and seat-based Enterprise, so it reaches an individual subscriber [2].

Second, treat the direction of a change as a comparison, and name the comparison. BleepingComputer's own headline calls the September 2026 change a cut, and its first paragraph calls it a permanent increase; each measures against a different baseline [2]. When you describe the change to a colleague, say which baseline you mean.

Third, check your own account instead of the log for the current state. Run /usage inside Claude Code to see the plan bars and reset times, and open Settings > Usage on claude.ai for the next weekly reset. The page on reading /usage and /context explains each row.

Why Reveneau keeps this log

Reveneau is an AI software development consultancy whose code is written by AI, so a change to a usage limit changes the running cost of every Reveneau build, and Reveneau is independent of Anthropic. The log exists because the support articles state only the current rule, so a team that wants to know whether its allowance changed in a given month needs a dated record. Reveneau's recommendation is to note the date of this page each time you read it, and to treat a difference between this page and Anthropic's live pages as a sign that Anthropic's page is newer. The sister pages on waiting for a reset and on a subscription or an API key for one developer describe the rules as they stood on 4 October 2026.

Common questions

What changed in Claude Code weekly limits on 14 September 2026?

By BleepingComputer's report of 29 August 2026, read on 4 October 2026, a temporary 50 percent increase in Claude Code's weekly limits ended on 13 September 2026, and from 14 September 2026 a permanent 25 percent increase over the pre-promotion baseline applies to Pro, Max, Team and seat-based Enterprise plans. The report quotes Anthropic as writing that compared to that day the change works out to a 17 percent reduction in weekly limits on Claude Code. The weekly limit is the plan allowance that resets once a week.

Was the September 2026 change an increase or a reduction in Claude Code weekly limits?

Both, depending on the comparison, and BleepingComputer's report of 29 August 2026 states each. Against the baseline before the temporary promotion, the permanent level from 14 September 2026 is 25 percent higher. Against the temporary level in place until 13 September 2026, it is 17 percent lower, by BleepingComputer's figure. The report's illustration is 100 before, 150 during the promotion, and 125 after. The report says Anthropic deleted its first post and then published a clarification that stated the 17 percent reduction.

Which plans did the 14 September 2026 weekly limit change apply to?

BleepingComputer's report of 29 August 2026, read on 4 October 2026, quotes Anthropic as naming Pro, Max, Team, and seat-based Enterprise plans for the permanent 25 percent increase in standard weekly limits from 14 September 2026. A seat is one member's place on a Team or Enterprise plan, and a seat-based Enterprise plan is one billed per seat. The report names no other plan, and Anthropic's release notes page, read the same day, holds no entry for this change at all.

Where does Anthropic publish changes to Claude usage limits?

Anthropic's release notes page on support.claude.com lists product changes by date, and its support articles on the Pro plan, the Max plan, usage credits and Claude Code state the rules in force at the time you read them. Both were read for this guide on 4 October 2026. The release notes entries in this log, such as Claude Code on every Team Standard seat on 16 January 2026, come from that page. The September 2026 weekly limit change was found only in BleepingComputer's report, which quotes posts by Anthropic.

When did Team plan Standard seats get Claude Code access?

On 16 January 2026, by Anthropic's release notes read on 4 October 2026. The entry reads that Anthropic is now including Claude Code access with every Team plan standard seat, and it points to the article on purchasing and managing seats on Team plans. Before that entry, the release notes of 20 August 2025 describe a Premium seat tier for Team and Enterprise plans offering more usage and access to Claude Code, which is the earlier route to Claude Code on a Team plan recorded in the notes.

When were Premium seats with Claude Code introduced for Team and Enterprise plans?

On 20 August 2025, by Anthropic's release notes read on 4 October 2026. The entry says Anthropic introduced a premium seat tier for Team and Enterprise plans offering more usage and access to Claude Code, and it points to the articles on purchasing and managing seats and on using Claude Code with a Team or Enterprise plan. The same date has a second entry, extra usage for Team and Enterprise plans, which let users buy more usage after reaching their usage limit.

When did extra usage become available on Team and Enterprise plans?

On 20 August 2025, by Anthropic's release notes read on 4 October 2026. The entry says a new setting allows Team and Enterprise plan users to purchase more usage to continue chatting with Claude or using Claude Code after reaching their usage limit. Extra usage is the release notes' name for what the support articles read on 4 October 2026 call usage credits: paid use after the included limit, billed at standard API rates. The guide to Claude Code costs for teams covers how an administrator sets those limits.

When did self-serve Enterprise plans launch, and which seat do they include?

On 12 February 2026, by Anthropic's release notes read on 4 October 2026. The entry says any organisation can now purchase an Enterprise plan directly on Anthropic's website with no sales conversation, and that self-serve Enterprise plans have a single seat type that includes access to Claude, Claude Code, and Cowork. Before that date, the notes say, Enterprise plans were only available to customers working with Anthropic's sales team. The page on what each plan includes covers the current Enterprise seat types.

Does Anthropic's release notes page list the September 2026 weekly limit change?

No. The release notes page on support.claude.com, read on 4 October 2026, was searched for the words limit, usage, Claude Code, credits and extra usage, and no entry describes the weekly limit change of 14 September 2026. Its September 2026 entries cover model launches, plugins, Cowork and Salesforce. The entry in this log therefore rests on BleepingComputer's report of 29 August 2026, which quotes Anthropic's own posts, and the page says so beside the entry.

How often is this log of Claude Code limit changes updated?

The log shows the date it was last updated, 4 October 2026 on the day of writing, and that is the date every source was read. It is updated when the release notes, the support articles this guide cites, or a named news report record a new change to usage limits, usage credits or plan access for Claude Code. Between updates, Anthropic's own pages may be newer than this page, so the reset times you see in /usage and Settings > Usage are the current ones.

What did Anthropic say about further Claude Code usage changes in August 2026?

By BleepingComputer's report of 29 August 2026, read on 4 October 2026, Anthropic said more Claude Code usage changes were coming, and the report quotes Anthropic's clarification as saying it was working on changes meant to give users more visibility and control of their usage. The report gives no date and no detail for those changes, and none was found in Anthropic's release notes on 4 October 2026, so this log records only the statement and attributes it to the report.

How can I check whether my own Claude Code limits changed?

Run /usage inside Claude Code to see the plan bars and when each window resets, and open Settings > Usage in your Claude account on claude.ai for the next weekly reset time. Anthropic's support articles, read on 4 October 2026, give no number for the size of any window, so a change shows up as a difference in how much work fits before a limit message, and in any entry Anthropic adds to its release notes. This log records such entries with their dates and sources.
