Which Claude plan includes Claude Code, and what does each plan allow? Pro, Max, Team and Enterprise

Claude Code is included in every paid Claude plan and absent from the Free plan, by Anthropic's pricing page read on 4 October 2026. Pro is listed at $20 per month billed monthly or $17 per month on an annual subscription. Max 5x is $100 per month and Max 20x is $200 per month, and the numbers mean five times and 20 times the Pro per-session allowance, in the Max plan article's words. Team Standard seats are $20 per seat per month billed annually and Premium seats $100, with five times the Standard usage. Enterprise is $20 per seat per month plus usage at API rates. Anthropic says all prices may change. This page compares what each plan includes.

Key takeaways

  • Anthropic's pricing page, read on 4 October 2026, lists Claude Code as No on the Free plan and Yes on Pro, Max 5x, Max 20x, Team and both Enterprise plans.
  • Pro is listed at $20 per month billed monthly or $17 per month with an annual subscription of $200 billed up front, and Anthropic says prices may change.
  • The Max plan article says Max 5x includes five times the Pro per-session usage allowance and Max 20x includes 20 times it, at $100 and $200 per month as web prices.
  • Every Team plan seat includes Claude Code, and the pricing page gives a Premium seat five times the usage of a Standard seat.
  • On a usage-based Enterprise plan there are no per-seat usage limits, because usage is billed at API rates, by Anthropic's Team and Enterprise article.

Claude Code is Anthropic's coding tool. You type a request in a terminal (the text window where you type commands) and an AI model reads files, runs commands and edits code for you. It is included in Anthropic's paid plans, and each plan gives a different usage allowance: the amount of work the plan includes before a usage limit stops you. The work is done in tokens, the pieces of text the model reads and writes, and Anthropic states each allowance as a multiple of another plan's, with no token count attached. This page sets out what each plan includes for Claude Code, at the prices Anthropic's pricing page and support articles listed on 4 October 2026. Anthropic says on both that "price and plans are subject to change at Anthropic's discretion" [1][2], so treat every figure here as a reading on that date. The page is part of the guide to Claude Code usage limits.

Which plans include Claude Code at all

Anthropic's pricing page has a feature table for individual plans. Its Claude Code row reads: Free, No; Pro, Yes; Max 5x, Yes; Max 20x, Yes [1]. The table for business plans reads: Team, Yes; Enterprise (self-serve), Yes; Enterprise (sales-assisted), Yes [1]. The page's own question-and-answer section says it in one line: "Claude Code is included in all paid plans. It shares the same usage limits as the rest of your plan, so your work in the terminal and your chats draw from one pool" [1].

So the Free plan is the only plan on the page without Claude Code, and on every paid plan the allowance is shared with chat. The page on what counts against a usage limit covers that sharing.

Pro

The Pro plan article, read on 4 October 2026, says the plan is "available for $20 per month (US), with pricing in your local currency where supported", that monthly pricing varies by region, and that some regions include tax in the displayed price while others add it at checkout [3]. The pricing page lists the two billing choices: "$17 per month with annual subscription discount ($200 billed up front). $20 if billed monthly" [1]. The page shows $17 per month; $200 divided by twelve months is $16.67, and that division is our arithmetic on Anthropic's figures.

What Pro includes for Claude Code, by the Pro article: "Claude Code access" is one of its listed benefits, along with more usage per session than Free [3]. The two Anthropic pages disagree on one benefit: the Pro article lists "priority access to Claude during high-traffic periods" for Pro [3], while the pricing page's table marks "Priority access at high traffic times" as No for Pro and Yes for both Max tiers [1]. This page reports both as written. The pricing page says Pro "gives you at least 5x more usage per 5-hour session than Free" [1].

One line in the Pro article matters for anyone who also wants to pay per token: "The Pro plan does not include API usage through the Claude Console. If you're interested in both enhanced Claude features and the Claude API, you'll need to set up Console access to pay for API usage separately" [3]. The Console is Anthropic's website for API accounts, where you pay for each token instead of a monthly fee; the page on a subscription or an API key for one developer compares the two.

Max 5x and Max 20x

The Max plan article, read on 4 October 2026, lists two tiers: "Max 5x: $100 per month" and "Max 20x: $200 per month". It adds: "These prices are for web subscriptions only. Mobile pricing may vary depending on your app platform. Price and plans are subject to change at Anthropic's discretion" [2]. The pricing page shows Max as "From $100 per month" with the choice of "5x or 20x more usage than Pro" [1].

The numbers in the tier names are multiples of the Pro allowance in the five-hour window. The Max article's wording: "Max 5x includes five times the Pro plan's per-session usage allowance", and "Max 20x includes 20 times the Pro plan's per-session usage allowance" [2]. The pricing page says the same in its question-and-answer section: "choose from 5x or 20x the usage of Pro per 5-hour session" [1]. Both tiers also have the weekly limit that "applies across all models" [2].

Three other facts from the Max article. The plan "is currently available as a monthly subscription only" [2], which the pricing page's billing-cycle row confirms: Pro, "Monthly and annual"; Max 5x and Max 20x, "Monthly" [1]. Max subscribers get "priority access to our newest features and models" [2], and the pricing page lists "Priority access at high traffic times" as Yes for both Max tiers [1]. The pricing page also lists "Higher output limits for all tasks" for Max [1].

On moving between plans: the Max article says that when you upgrade from a lower to a higher tier, your account is charged on a prorated basis for the rest of the billing cycle, and that when you move from an annual Pro plan to Max with a remaining balance larger than the Max price, you receive a credit for the remaining balance, applied to future subscription costs, on the condition that the billing address matches your previous subscription's [2].

Team: Standard and Premium seats

The Team plan is "for teams of 2 to 150", by the pricing page [1]. It has two seat types, where a seat is one member's place on the plan:

  • Standard seat: "$20 per seat / month if billed annually. $25 if billed monthly", with "all Claude features, plus more usage than Pro" [1].
  • Premium seat: "$100 per seat / month if billed annually. $125 if billed monthly", with "5x more usage than standard seats" [1].

Anthropic's Team and Enterprise support article, read on 4 October 2026, says: "Claude Code is included with every Team plan seat. Premium seats offer more usage for team members with heavier workloads" [4]. The pricing page's question-and-answer section gives the multiples in one sentence: "On Team plans, Standard seats give more than Pro and Premium seats give 5x more than Standard" [1]. The page says the plan lets you "mix and match seat types" [1].

This was a change. Anthropic's release notes, read on 4 October 2026, include an entry dated January 16, 2026, headed "Claude Code access added to Team plan Standard seats": "We're now including Claude Code access with every Team plan standard seat" [5]. Before that, an entry dated August 20, 2025 introduced "a premium seat tier for Team and Enterprise plans offering more usage and access to Claude Code" [5]. The page on the dated log of limit changes keeps both entries.

A Team seat's allowance works like an individual plan's: Anthropic's Claude Code documentation says it "resets on a rolling five-hour window and a weekly window", is shared with chat and Cowork, and "its size depends on the member's seat tier (Standard or Premium)" [6]. The Team article adds one version requirement: skills and plugins from your Claude account load in Claude Code automatically after sign-in, and "this needs Claude Code v2.1.273 or later" [4].

Enterprise: one seat type on new plans, two on older ones

The pricing page lists Enterprise as "Seat price + usage at API rates: US$20/seat/month, billed annually. Usage cost scales with model and task" [1]. Its question-and-answer section repeats the structure: "Pricing is $20 per seat per month plus usage billed at API rates", and "Enterprise is billed annually" [1]. Anthropic's release notes date self-serve Enterprise plans to February 12, 2026, with "a single seat type that includes access to Claude, Claude Code, and Cowork" [5].

The Team and Enterprise article separates new plans from older ones. "For Enterprise plans, Claude Code is included with the single Enterprise seat on new and self-serve plans. On older Enterprise plans, Claude Code is available on Chat + Claude Code seats (usage-based billing) and Premium seats (seat-based billing)" [4]. On an older plan with Chat and Chat + Claude Code seats, or Standard and Premium seats, Anthropic says you need a seat type that includes Claude Code, and Owners can buy or reassign those seats in Organization settings [4].

The limit works differently by billing type. Anthropic writes: "If your organization is on a usage-based Enterprise plan (including self-serve Enterprise), there are no per-seat usage limits", because usage "is based on consumption and billed at API rates" [4]. On a Team plan or a seat-based Enterprise plan, the included allowance applies, and an administrator can turn on usage credits so members continue after it [4]. The pricing page's "Extra usage" row reads Yes for Team and "n/a" for both Enterprise columns [1], which fits usage billed per consumption; that reading is ours. Spend limits for an organisation are the subject of the guide to Claude Code costs for teams.

One more line from the Team and Enterprise article: on a HIPAA-ready Enterprise plan, "Claude Code is included in your seat but is not covered under the HIPAA-ready offering" [4].

The plans compared

Plan Price as listed on 4 October 2026 Claude Code included Usage multiple, as Anthropic states it
Free $0 [1] No [1] The base; Pro gives at least 5x more per five-hour session than Free [1]
Pro $20 per month billed monthly, or $17 per month on an annual subscription, $200 billed up front [1]; $20 per month (US) in the Pro article [3] Yes [1][3] At least 5x Free per five-hour session [1]
Max 5x $100 per month, web price [1][2] Yes [1][2] Five times the Pro per-session allowance [2]
Max 20x $200 per month, web price [1][2] Yes [1][2] 20 times the Pro per-session allowance [2]
Team, Standard seat $20 per seat per month billed annually, $25 monthly [1] Yes, every seat [4] More usage than Pro [1]
Team, Premium seat $100 per seat per month billed annually, $125 monthly [1] Yes [4] 5x the Standard seat [1]
Enterprise, new or self-serve US$20 per seat per month billed annually, plus usage at API rates [1] Yes, in the single seat [4] No per-seat usage limit on usage-based billing [4]
Enterprise, older plans The pricing page lists the current Enterprise plan only [1] On Chat + Claude Code seats and Premium seats only [4] Per seat on seat-based billing; per consumption on usage-based billing [4]

Every price in the table is a web price that Anthropic says may change [1][2][3]. The Pro article says regional prices vary and may include or exclude tax [3], and the Max article says mobile app prices may differ [2].

Which plan to pick

Our position, from Anthropic's own advice. The Pro or Max support article says to "consider upgrading to the Max 5x plan if you consistently hit limits and need more capacity for larger repositories", and, on Max 5x, to "consider upgrading to the Max 20x plan if you consistently hit limits" [7]. So the test Anthropic gives is whether limits are reached consistently. A limit reached once in a week is a case for waiting or for usage credits, which the page on usage credits after the limit covers. A limit reached most days is the case the article names for the next tier.

Check the price step against your /usage bars. Pro to Max 5x is $20 to $100 per month for five times the per-session allowance; Max 5x to Max 20x is $100 to $200 for four times the Max 5x allowance, since 20 is four times 5. Those ratios are our arithmetic on Anthropic's figures. Reveneau recommends the Max 20x tier for one developer who runs Claude Code through most of a working day: the Max article calls it the tier for daily users who collaborate often with Claude for most tasks, and Max 5x the tier for frequent users who work with Claude on a variety of tasks [2], and the 20x per-session allowance gives a long task more room before the session window stops it.

For a group of 2 to 150 people, the Team plan is the plan the pricing page lists for that size, and the first plan in its tables with central billing and administration [1]. Reveneau recommends Standard seats by default with Premium seats for the members whose /usage bars reach the limit, since the pricing page gives Premium five times the Standard allowance at five times the annual price [1]. For a larger organisation, the pricing page lists the Enterprise plan [1].

Reveneau is an AI software development consultancy, and all of its code is written by AI, so the plan allowance is a running constraint on every Reveneau build. Reveneau is independent of Anthropic. Every price and multiple on this page is Anthropic's own statement about its own product, read on 4 October 2026.

Common questions

Which Claude plans include Claude Code?

Every paid Claude plan includes Claude Code, and the Free plan does not. Anthropic's pricing page, read on 4 October 2026, lists Claude Code as No for Free and Yes for Pro, Max 5x, Max 20x, Team, Enterprise self-serve and Enterprise sales-assisted. The page adds that Claude Code shares the same usage limits as the rest of the plan, so terminal work and chats share one allowance. On older Enterprise plans, only Chat + Claude Code seats and Premium seats include it.

How much does the Pro plan cost on 4 October 2026?

On 4 October 2026, Anthropic's pricing page listed Pro at $20 per month billed monthly, or $17 per month with an annual subscription of $200 billed up front. The Pro plan support article gives $20 per month in US dollars, says monthly pricing varies by region, and says some regions include tax in the displayed price while others add it at checkout. Both pages say price and plans are subject to change at Anthropic's discretion.

What does 5x mean on the Max plan?

On the Max plan, 5x means five times the Pro plan's per-session usage allowance, which is the allowance inside the five-hour window. That is the Max plan article's wording, read on 4 October 2026: Max 5x includes five times the Pro plan's per-session usage allowance, and Max 20x includes 20 times it. Anthropic's pricing page says the same, as 5x or 20x the usage of Pro per 5-hour session. Both tiers also have a weekly limit across all models.

How much do the Max 5x and Max 20x plans cost?

Anthropic's Max plan article, read on 4 October 2026, lists Max 5x at $100 per month and Max 20x at $200 per month. The article says these are prices for web subscriptions only, that mobile pricing may vary by app platform, and that price and plans are subject to change at Anthropic's discretion. The pricing page shows Max as from $100 per month. Both tiers include Claude Code and priority access at high-traffic times.

Is the Max plan available on an annual subscription?

No. Anthropic's Max plan article, read on 4 October 2026, says the Max plan is currently available as a monthly subscription only. The pricing page's billing-cycle row agrees: Pro is monthly and annual, while Max 5x and Max 20x are monthly. The Pro plan is the individual plan with an annual option, listed at $200 billed up front. The Max article says an unused balance from an annual Pro plan can become a credit when you move to Max.

What is the difference between a Team Standard seat and a Premium seat?

A Team Premium seat gives five times the usage of a Standard seat, by Anthropic's pricing page read on 4 October 2026, and both include Claude Code. The Standard seat is listed at $20 per seat per month billed annually or $25 monthly, with more usage than Pro. The Premium seat is $100 per seat per month billed annually or $125 monthly. Anthropic's Team article says Premium seats offer more usage for members with heavier workloads, and seat types can be mixed.

Does the Enterprise plan have a per-seat usage limit?

On a usage-based Enterprise plan, no. Anthropic's Team and Enterprise article, read on 4 October 2026, says that on a usage-based Enterprise plan, including self-serve Enterprise, there are no per-seat usage limits, because usage is based on consumption and billed at API rates. On a seat-based Enterprise plan, the included allowance applies, and an administrator can turn on usage credits so members continue after it. The pricing page lists Enterprise at $20 per seat per month plus usage.

Do older Enterprise plans include Claude Code in every seat?

No. Anthropic's Team and Enterprise article, read on 4 October 2026, says Claude Code is included with the single Enterprise seat on new and self-serve plans, while on older Enterprise plans it is available on Chat + Claude Code seats, which are usage-based, and Premium seats, which are seat-based. On an older plan, Owners can buy or reassign those seat types in Organization settings. Anthropic's release notes date self-serve Enterprise plans to February 12, 2026.

Does a Pro plan include API access through the Console?

No. Anthropic's Pro plan article, read on 4 October 2026, says the Pro plan does not include API usage through the Claude Console, and that anyone who wants both the plan and the API needs to set up Console access and pay for API usage separately. The Console is Anthropic's website for pay-per-token accounts. The Pro or Max support article also warns that an ANTHROPIC_API_KEY set in your environment makes Claude Code bill the API instead of the plan.

Which plan should one developer who keeps reaching the Pro limit choose?

Anthropic's own advice, in the Pro or Max support article read on 4 October 2026, is to consider upgrading to Max 5x if you consistently reach limits and need more capacity for larger repositories, and from Max 5x to Max 20x if limits are still reached consistently. Max 5x is listed at $100 per month for five times the Pro per-session allowance. For a developer who runs Claude Code through most of a working day, this page recommends Max 20x.

Do Max plan prices apply on the mobile app stores?

The web prices may differ on mobile. Anthropic's Max plan article, read on 4 October 2026, says the $100 and $200 per month prices are for web subscriptions only and that mobile pricing may vary depending on your app platform. The Pro plan article likewise says to check claude.ai/upgrade or your mobile app store for current pricing in your region. The usage credits article adds that a plan bought through a mobile app can enable usage credits only on the web version of Claude.

How many seats can a Team plan have?

Anthropic's pricing page, read on 4 October 2026, describes the Team plan as for teams of 2 to 150 people. Seats come in two types, Standard and Premium, which the page says can be mixed and matched, and every seat includes Claude Code, by the Team and Enterprise support article. For a larger organisation, the pricing page lists the Enterprise plan, billed annually at $20 per seat per month plus usage at API rates.
